HPB Button Probes

Capacitec’s HPB thin “side-looking” button probes are designed to measure displacement and part dimensional changes in tight or hidden access locations looking at an earth grounded target. The Button Series probes are particularly well suited for placement in very small, down to 0.025 in  (0.65mm), locations for the inspection of thin gaps. The probes are often used in pairs to compensate for part misalignment and gauge positioning. Capacitec can improve accuracy, repeatability and precision by replacing existing mechanical contact gauging methods with non-contact "electronic gages". 

HPB Button Probes are available in a wide operational temperature range for precise displacement measurements from Cryogenic to 1000°C.

Notes

Thinner sensor: For thinner capacitive sensors down to 0.0055" (140 microns) see Series HPS and GPS in the Thin Capacitive Sensors section.

 

Range:

  • Encased range implies a probe face flush mounted to an earth grounded surface
  • Range values tested with 5 ft. (1.524 m) of Capacitec L2 cable.
  • Range and SNR will be degraded by longer cable lengths.

 

Calibrations:

  • Upon order placement customers must specify their calibration requirements. The calibration is based on the customer’s required linear range shown in voltage output per distance. All Capacitec sensor systems come with a factory calibration based on the customer’s requirements. A calibration results sheet, traceable to NIST is included in each shipment.
  • A 20-point archived calibration record of voltage output vs. nominal displacement is provided standard with every probe. 
  • Sensor must be calibrated with final length of cable for stated results.

 

Electricals:

  • Button probes are provided without any case as standard. If they are to be installed in a metallic case, an optional -D [482°F (250°C) epoxy] dip coating protection is required to prevent the driver, sensor, and guard elements from being accidentally earth grounded or shorted. (Not available on "V" and "S" Series probes.)
  • The guard element is driven with an electronic voltage 2 to 20 Volts P - P maxximum and must not be grounded.
  • The user must also add an insulative coating to the installation location to avoid shorting the driven guard to earth ground (with 20 megOhms leakage resistance required)
